How I work
I work best on B2B products with a lot of data on screen: catalogs, tables, back offices, the tools people spend their whole workday in. I figure out where such a product can go, then design and build the way there.
I start by digging in. How the business actually works, what people using the product are trying to get done, what the company already has that nobody is using yet. The best next step for a product is usually hiding in there, not in a blank-page redesign.
Then I build. For more than ten years I did that through others, as a product manager and UX designer. Since late 2025 I've been doing it hands-on as well: design systems, data grids, whole platforms, from the domain model to deployment. I build with coding agents, and tests and written contracts keep the result honest.
I think about building like a progressive JPEG. It shows you the whole picture almost at once, blurry, then gets sharper with every pass. The alternative draws the top third perfectly and leaves the rest blank. I want products that work end to end early and get sharper where people actually look.
I do my best work with strong people around me: engineers who push back, founders who share the why. Give me a good argument and I'll change my mind quickly.
Outside work: sci-fi, kids, cats, home automation, and improving things that probably didn't need improving.
In practice
At Sirv, I developed the DAM/PIM direction behind Sirv AI Studio: build on the customers and image CDN the company already had, turn standalone AI image tools into a workspace for merchants' assets, then extend it to product data and sales channels. In a team of three I then owned Studio's design system, Sid-Kit, and its virtualized data grid.
Before that, on my own initiative, I turned the web app's design into a Figma system developers could build from directly. It became the basis of the redesign, instead of the design-systems specialist the founders had planned to hire.
On Sparta, a B2B wholesale platform, I owned everything technical, from the domain model and UX to the backend, the accounting integration and deployment. It reached a production release candidate before the partnership behind it ended.

Strengths
I was surprised how accurate Gallup's CliftonStrengths assessment is. I reflect a lot, and the report confirmed what I already knew. I highly recommend it. My top five of 34:
- StrategicSees the patterns early and picks the best of several ways forward.
- AchieverWorks hard, keeps going, and is happiest when things get done.
- RelatorBuilds a few close relationships and works best alongside them.
- IndividualizationNotices what makes each person different and how they work best together.
- LearnerEnjoys the process of learning as much as knowing.
From people
I've worked with
What stands out is that he cares more about the product and the user experience than anyone I have ever worked with. … Faced with complex products and UI problems, he makes them straightforward to use.
Jake BrumbyCEO and co-founder, SirvHe can process enormous amounts of information in a remarkably short time, identify what really matters, and turn complex insights into actionable solutions. … I especially recommend Max for projects that require quickly diving into an unfamiliar domain and building a digital product from scratch, with a strong focus on UX.

Max is insanely dedicated to excellence in his work. He came from product and design, and he was shipping production front-end from his first week. … Oh, and Studio becoming a DAM/PIM in the first place was his idea.

in mind?
I'm looking for a product with customers and room to grow, where I can own the interface and widen my responsibility as I learn the business. I'm also open to building something new with a strong early team.
